RI 13 – Elite Eight!

RI 13 – Elite Eight!

It matters that you try

I haven’t been very funny this year. Usually I’m very funny — in my own mind at least — but, there’s only so much time to go around each day. I hear it’s 24 hours, although it feels like much less as there’s always a multitude of things left on my TO DO list. I’m an optimist and so my daily list usually looks something like this:

Things I’m going to do today

  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3
  • Item 4
  • Item 5
  • Item 6
  • Item 7
  • Item 8
  • Item 9
  • Item 10
  • That’s pretty ambitious. But I always feel like I’m going to get all the way to item number 10. The reality in 3 kid world is you really have 2 lists that look something like this:

    Things you will do today

    • Take care of the kid stuff
    • Take care of work
    • One other thing

    Never gonna happen

    • Item 4
    • Item 5
    • Item 6
    • Item 7
    • Item 8
    • Item 9
    • Item 10

I understand this reality and yet I still make out my TO DO lists with 10 items. I’m an optimist. Sometimes take a shower is the one other thing. Sometimes it’s not!

There are days when I get to Item 4, Item 5, sometimes even Item 10! But a lot of days, it’s just that one other thing. So it’s important to prioritize. When it comes to writing these RI updates priority one is “get something done”. Priority 2 is “write something funny”. I try to get #2 done, but during this write up I’ve already had to dress black horsey, break up 2 kids fights, and print out a picture of Luke Skywalker. And I still haven’t taken that shower yet. The point is prioritizing is important if you are going to tackle the most important things in your life. You may never reach those items on the bottom rungs of your list, but the point is you try. Trying counts for a lot.

Thanks to all of you for prioritizing the Radcliffe Invitational as a worthwhile yearly tradition. It’s a whole lot of fun and it supports Andy’s Memorial Scholarship which supports some awesome kids! And thanks for trying to fill out a winning bracket again this year, although let’s face it, most of you BLEW IT and your brackets are in shambles. But that matters little. It matters that you try.

What the heck was the point of this rant? I have no idea, but I’m sure given more time it would have both been important and funny. Onward.

Dennis Pool ascends to the top of the Standings

Poor Joel. Poor little Joel. He enjoyed a good run atop the RI leader board, but he has yielded to new leader Dennis Pool. Joel drops to the 5 spot. Dennis has his Final Four intact and is looking for an Arizona over Michigan State Finale. But we’ll get into more of the winning scenarios once we get past the weekend.

Dave Kimmel, who briefly made it to the top of the RI leader board last night, is holding strong in 2nd. He’s followed by Gordy Dawson (fist bump) and Will Hagy who are tied for 3rd. Then it’s the hard charging Brady Gustafson who seeks the first Gustafson title. Marcia and Heather continue their run in the top 10 and are tied for 7th. Heather should have a much more relaxing Day now that Duke is through. Tomorrow it’s nervous time again as Duke battles Gonzaga in the regional final. Rounding out the top 10 it’s Richard Era and Kenny Klinglesmith.

I hate to burst your bubble

Going down in flames with recent losses by their predicted champion are: Jackie Radcliffe, Dana Wood, Jenna Welch, Ben Mann, and John Weaver.

Other priorities prevent me from delving any further into the madness, but I hope everyone has an awesome Saturday! We have two colossal games tonight at 6:00pm and 8:30pm EST that may go a long way to determining our RI champion: Wisconsin vs. Arizona and Kentucky vs. Notre Dame. Get your popcorn ready Milams! Get your bourbon ready Laura!
